The Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources conducted the Training on Responsible Tuna Fishing Technologies for the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of licensed fisheries professionals working in the fisheries sector.
Its first phase was conducted online via Zoom on April 7-11, 2025, and was attended by more than 1000 fisheries professionals from all over the country. Meanwhile, the second phase, held in General Santos on May 5–7, 2025, provided selected fisheries professionals of the Bureau the opportunity to further acquire practical skills and knowledge through hands-on activities.
This training series was conducted in collaboration with the National Marine Fisheries Development Center (NMFDC), which aimed to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills on various tuna fishing technologies, their basic operations and requirements, post-harvest practices, processing technologies, and marketing strategies of the tuna fishing industry – providing an excellent opportunity for fisheries professionals from BFAR Regional Offices, academic institutions, LGUs, research agencies, and private and government organizations to learn and apply responsible practices in tuna fishing and ensuring sustainability in the industry.
